I am directed by the Marquess of Lansdowne to
transmit to you, to be laid before the Secretary of
State for the Colonies, a copy of a despatch as
marked in the margin, from the Commercial Attaché
to His Majesty's Legation at Peking, enclosing the
English text of the new Treaty between China and
Portugal, as published in a local evening newspaper.
Mr. Jamieson points out that the English text
differs in some respects from the Chinese text, of
which a précis was forwarded in his despatch No.17
of November 14th.
His Majesty's Minister at Lisbon has therefore
been requested to endeavour to obtain a copy of the
correct text of the Treaty.
The Under Secretary of State,
Colonial Office.
I am,
Sir,
Your most obedient,
humble Servant,
Fa Campbell
